LOKEO Development Plan for West-Klaaskreek

The foundation intends to develop the Klaaskreek area located to the west of the Avobakaweg.
One of the focal points of the Land Agricultural Development Foundation for Klaaskreek and its Surroundings, LOKEO, for the coming years is the realization of area development in West Klaaskreek.
The envisioned development of West Klaaskreek has two main pillars. Firstly, non-mineral development, with a primary focus on agricultural development in the forms of agribusiness, agroforestry, and agro-industry. Additionally, the second pillar is the establishment of a new village, a residential center for both the village's residents and those from beyond.
To facilitate this development process, LOKEO has engaged the expertise of Srenniw Architects, Fidusie, Entrin, and Humain BV, who will design an area development plan for this planning area.

Introduction to West-Klaaskreek

The area is characterized by a hilly landscape with various types of vegetation and noticeable differences in elevation.
West Klaaskreek is part of the transmigration village, Klaaskreek district. The planning area is bordered by the Avobakaweg to the east, the Kwakoegron district to the west, the Marechalkreek in the north, and the Bewojoweg in the south
Currently, various activities are taking place in the planning area. Roads are being constructed, small crops are being cultivated by farmers, and the area is being connected to the electricity grid. Additionally, there are experimental fields for citrus fruits and cocoa. A cocoa trial plot has already been initiated to practice the environmentally friendly concept of cocoa cultivation in agroforestry. Boundary markers are also visible in the planning area.

Marronomics

Marronomics emphasizes the economic activity and development in the interior of Suriname...
Marronomics emphasizes the economic activity and development in the interior of Suriname as a tribute to the long road to development of Maroons and the indigenous population because of the past slavery.
Apart from the land rights issue, which is a crucial pillar for the development of the domestic economy, marronomics also focuses on the economic diversification for sustainable development of the interior.
The diversification comes with different economic laws, bills, judicial issues, way of doing business and the direct involvement of local community, governance, institutions and companies. The West Klaas Creek project is designed in this line of thought and with this concept in mind.
